You know, I've just started training with a local police department and I think I was nieve to the fact of what I was going to have to do in this job. I enjoy it, but man, I don't know... taking someone's rights away on a whim just seems like so much power for one person. I think it's corruptible power... You see so many people abuse it much like in the Gary Indiana case with their police chief that illegally arrested two people because he thought they broke into his house. What if I mess up? Do we put too much power into people's hands in law enforcement? One officer can make your life a living hell if he chose to and you wouldn't have much power against it. It would be a lot of money in legal fees and time.... which is what a lot of people don't have right now.
Is there some way to address this flaw with the justice system or should we still put so much trust in ordinary people?
